Free entertainment

The neighbors extended their back patio this past week.I kept hearing the blinds bang in Gabrielle's bedroom. After a little investigation it was clear to me why there was a comotion. Dawson was glued to the window admiring this. "Big truck!!"

We were headed somewhere & I told the kids that we would watch the cement workers for a few minutes prior to loading up, but my timing was off. As soon as we headed out of the garage the workers pulled away. Bummer!!

Back in action

Wow have I neglected this blog.
I am back and promise to keep up with the daily grind of the Hicks household.
For those of you who don't already know our family endeavored a little mishap a couple of weeks back. The day prior to St. Patrick's Day to be exact. Gabrielle and I were rough housing and a little body slam resulted in her first (and hopefully last) bone fracture. Gabrielle tends to be somewhat of a drama queen so to be honest I played if off as her way of vying for attention however when she woke up Tuesday morning and wouldn't bear any weight on it whatsoever I knew her "attention getting" was real. I phoned the pediatrician who requested we have her evaluated prior to them ordering any films. We had a quick eval and were sent to Children's Mercy South for x-rays. It wasn't long before the tech informed us that indeed there was a fracture that required a visit to a pediatric ortho. Praise the Lord we have a connection with the best pediatric ortho in the city (whom also treated Dawson) therefore they worked us in the same afternoon. We saw the N.P Sarah (who Gabi kept referring to as the gentle nurse and/or Ms. Sarah). She informed us that Gabi had a non-displaced spiral fracture on the tibia shaft and proceeded to fit Gabrielle with the most fashionable of hot pinks casts on the market.
See below picture :0)

Gabrielle is to wear the cast for four weeks at which time they will remove it, obtain another x-ray and determine if another cast will be placed or if she will only require a splint (fancy word for the big ugly boots) for an additional 2-4 weeks. She has been in incredible spirits and oddly enough the cast hasn't slowed her a bit. It has been a little disheartening as her normal activities have been put to a temporary halt (walks, bike rides, playing on playground equipment, enjoying the snowfall yesterday, etc).
We have several great friends (you know who you are!!!) that blessed Gabrielle with visits and special gifts that brought a smile to her face and provided some much needed activity for her in those first few days. Our neighbors, who are much like a 3rd set of grandparents to our kids, brought over this yummy plate of cupcakes and the most adorable fairy sticker book you ever laid eyes on.

GG mailed $5 for ice cream and Papa & Mema have been spending a LOT of extra one on one time with their girl.
So this is how the Hicks family rolled with it on St. Patty's day!!!
How about your family??

A day in the life of our baby D

Hello blog world! I have been a very poor blogger as of recent. Not much going on in our lives with the cold weather, illnesses, etc. So, I thought I will give you a glimpse into a day in the life of Dawson. He is 100% all boy!!!
On any given day you can find him doing this ...

or his favorite - pulling sissy's hair (he belly laughs, she screams!)

or more recently this - emptying out dresser drawers at the speed of lightening

But all he has to do is flash Momma one of these ...

or this tooth bearing grin and I fall in love with him all over again!!!

Life wouldn't be what it is today without our little man.
He brings us so much joy, laughter & lots & lots of hugs and kisses.
